Squalane Gang- the beginners oil

Wow! I can not keep quiet about this!

I am here to share with you this super hydrating oil I recently added into my skin care routine that has been a game changer. As a novice oil user this oil is my entry into facial oils and I think you may enjoy hearing about it too. I will discuss what the oil is, why this oil is so amazing, how I use it, and where you can get some of your own.

Winter is in full force. Although I will say it has been a milder one than winter’s in the past my skin takes a toll. The flakey dry patches that pop up uninvited, and the constant need to spray some type of facial spray has my skin screaming for moisture. One day I was scrolling the gram and one of my favorite IG accounts for this beauty podcast I listen to called Naked Beauty Podcast hosted by the ever chic Brooke DeVard mentioned squalane oil. I read the post and instantly went to find this exact same oil to try. see post

What is Squalane oil?

Not to be confused with squalene oil(with an E) squalane oil is a natural oil that can be derived from plants. The original ingredient of squalane oil which you can find in certain beauty and cosmetic products was derived from shark livers; but you know we don’t have time for that in 2019. There are now brands catered to making cruelty free squalane oil from extracting olive plants(no baby sharks here). What makes squalane oil so great is because it is a fast absorbing, hydrating oil that mimics the natural sebum that our body produces. It also balances oil production, antibacterial, non-comedogenic, and can help with smoothing the overall appearance of our skin and more. Squalane is great for all skin types and will not make your skin “more oily”. I love that you can use squalane oil all over your body and even in your hair. The oil is lightweight and non sticky. It is a clear color and the consistency of an oil and water mixture.

How I use it & what I’ve noticed

There’s really not a wrong way to use squalane but I find that I prefer it best after I cleanse, tone and apply serum, as a first moisturizer. I have even used it under face makeup for a dewy glow. Since using this oil I have noticed that I no longer have dry patches and at the end of the day my skin isn’t thirsting for moisture. Now I am not an esthetician so please consult a professional but I will say skin is more than outward it is staying hydrated by drinking water and eating a balanced diet. I do not have problem skin historically speaking but I have received way more compliments on my skin since using the oil so I will give squalane some credit. #glowgirl

What to buy?

If you decide to try this oil out below are some oils that are the “most popular” olive derived squalane oil. I would look for oils that are 100% olive derived and organic if you can but not necessary. The oil that I can vouch for is the Timeless brand under $14.00. A few other popular brands are the Biossance brand, the Indie Lee brand, and the Ordinary brand. I hope you found this informative because I am OBSSESSED with this oil.

If you have tried squalane did you like it? If not, would you try it? To read more about this oil click here
