Singapore for $330
Hi friends!
This post was actually written when I got back from my trip to Singapore February of 2018 (I know a whole year later shhhh). I won’t keep you too long but if Singapore is on your bucket list or you are just curious of my trip keep reading.
Why Singapore?
Singapore was never on my list of places to travel to be honest. This was before I knew anything about ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ the book series and film. It was calm Tuesday at work when I got a notification from travel pirates of a $330RT flight deal to Singapore with flexible dates. Now I’m no crazy person but $300 dollars to go to another continent is WILD. I reach out to my travel partner in crime and we booked right there with no questions asked. #taytip: Book now figure the rest out later. If I can I will always jump on a flight deal because why not!
My stay in Singapore was for 3 days because we ventured to Bali after. I have briefly recapped each day spent there and at the bottom of this post you will find information on where we lodged and a few quick tips for Singapore travel
Day 1:
I never like to schedule excursions or activities on the first day that I arrive somewhere because you never know if you will be delayed in travel or simply exhausted. The travel time alone took a total of 24hrs with a short layover in Tokyo. We arrived excited and a bit delirious. Once we got to our hotel we dropped off our bags as check in wasn’t until 3pm and went out to explore. Our hotel location was in the perfect area, centrally located and walkable just as I imagined when booking.
DAYTIME: Walked through China Town and the shops- think a street market with food, clothes, and more. Chinese New Year was the next week (the year of the dog), so the streets were filled with celebratory decor and festive happenings. We also walked through Clarke Quay riverfront- a huge dining and shopping area which gets pretty lit at night.
NIGHTTIME: Took a very long nap, headed out for food at Potato head restaurant (they have a cute rooftop) and to explore the night life scene. Singapore gets lit okk!
Day 2:
Feeling well rested and ready to explore we had breakfast which was included in our hotel cost and did the below.
DAYTIME: Gardens by the bay- An amazing urban garden oasis of super trees and more. I seriously felt like I was in a futuristic movie. After that we took an Uber to Little India - strolled around to view the instagrammable colorful houses, got lost in the streets, shopped for trinkets at the market, got henna and had an amazing lunch of Indian food (which I paid for later). It was recommended that we visit Orchard Rd so that was our next stop. Orchard Rd is a shoppers dream. A massive road of almost any store you can think of. The road stretched as long as the eye could see.
NIGHTTIME: Met up with some friends who were also in Singapore over at Clark Quaye for a quick dinner of tacos and a fun night catching up.
Day 3:
The last full day of Singapore we wanted adventure and some sun so here’s what we did.
DAYTIME: First stop was Sentosa beach which is a man made beach. We took the cable car ride across the water and road go-karts down the hills. About mid-morning we grabbed lunch at the local park restaurant and laid out on the beach while sipping yummy slushies. After that we ventured over to Palawan beach which is in the same part of Sentosa. Palawan is the Southern most point of continental Asia so that was really cool to see and we got to take cute pictures.
NIGHTTIME: After a much needed nap (we didn’t know what day it was) we wanted to see the super trees at night because they have a light show so we went back to Gardens by the Bay after dinner. This dinner was my favorite because we had Chilli crab(A SG must try) at the famous Jumbo seafood restaurant.
All in all this trip was so much fun. I love exploring different places and was blessed to be able to do so. Overall I felt that 3 days is plenty of time to explore what Singapore has to offer. The people were extremely friendly and it was easy to navigate. I will add that Singapore is pretty pricey for an Asian country(city-island) so keep that in mind. Not unbearable pricey but comparable to New York prices IMO. Next up was Bali, Have you visited Singapore? Let me know if it is on your radar?
Quick notes/tips:
Lodging: If I ever go back I’ll do at least one night at the infamous Marina Bay Sands. My friends stayed there and y’all it is amazing. We ended up staying at Hotel clover 5 (centrally located, breakfast included, was decent and clean when we stayed not sure if the level of upkeep is the same since my visit).
Transportation: Used Uber/Taxis/walked everywhere it was so cheap although their MRT(public train system is very efficient I would recommend using)
Food: Ate all the things, note-able faves were the chili crab and street food (proceed with caution). Also the Indian food was so good. Singapore is a mesh of many ethnicities so they have a large Indian population
Other things: With any travel you should read up on laws and customs. Singapore is pretty strict and is super clean. As long as you are being “normal” you shouldn’t run into issues but don’t litter. PLEASE DON’T LITTER!
Weather: Average daily temps in February were 85-87 degrees. February is also considered “monsoon season” but it did not rain once. It was super hot should you visit pack and dress accordingly.
Long flights: Compression socks are a life saver. Stay hydrated. I Keep myself entertained by downloading Netflix shows on my iPad, snacks keep them on deck(you may not like the plane meals). I tried to make my flight as comfy as possible(I love an aisle seat on super long flights because I can stretch my legs for circulation). Also we got a flight deal so I was not in business or first class whew! One day.
Bye for now!
XoXo-
