Print Mixing for Beginners!

Hi friends,

Mixing prints can easily take your outfits from blah to bomb. I love the added element of contrasting patterns that meet for a fresh eye-catching look. If you are new to mixing prints there are a few rules you can follow for a seamless print mix.

Below I am sharing my rules and tips. I will focus on 5 prints I feel most people already have in their closet so you can start mixing right away. Let’s go!

“Rules” Short & Sweet

-Stick to prints with one common color to pull from (ex: black & white stripe w/ black background floral print)

-The size of the print matters (Bigger prints pair better with smaller minimal prints because no one print over powers the others)

-When in doubt keep things neutral (If mixing a top and bottom that are prints add a solid third piece to tie the look together)

-Leopard print is a neutral not up for debate

-Animal on Animal always wins

-Keep your shoes simple if mixing clothes (black and white and tans can add to the prints but won’t distract)

-You can print mix shoes (ex: a zebra skirt and a leopard shoe or snakeprint shoe, keep the rest of the outfit simple)

For my look above I played around with the navy color as the base and pulled the whites and lighter colors to mix my prints. I would add on a motorcycle jacket or blazer to tie this look on in.
